# What PLM platforms integrate well with CAD tools like CATIA and NX so engineers do not have to manually push design data into a separate system?

Looking for practical experience in the PLM category, specifically on CAD integration quality and the difference between a platform that technically integrates with CATIA or NX and one where the integration works reliably enough that engineers actually use it rather than defaulting to manual processes because the automated path is more trouble than it's worth.

  1. Siemens Teamcenter: The data exchange is native rather than connector-based. CATIA integration also works well for viewing and managing design data. Importing 3D assemblies and drawings directly for design work, and parts and assemblies stay organized and stored properly, so details stay connected. 
  2. Windchill: Native integration with PTC CREO is the foundation, but Windchill also integrates with CATIA and NX for organizations that run multi-CAD environments. The CAD integration is the core strength that aerospace and manufacturing organizations buy Windchill for.
  3. OpenBOM: CAD add-ins for SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and other tools generate BOMs automatically from CAD assemblies.
